Mill Creek stream bank protection work

Mill Creek stream bank protection work is underway

The City of Moab has begun construction on the Mill Creek Bank Protection Project to help
further stabilize the creek banks against erosion and provide possible creek bank protection in
the event of future flooding. This work could extend through mid/late February, city officials
said.
“These improvements will help reduce erosion, protect infrastructure, and improve long-term
stream stability along Mill Creek,” said City Engineer Mark Jolissaint. “The City appreciates the
public’s patience as crews work to complete this important safety and environmental
improvement project. Crews have currently installed environmental controls, including silt
fencing, a cofferdam, and a temporary creek diversion to create a safe, dry work zone.”
The work will be taking place in two main areas – the Mill Creek banks adjacent to Rotary
Park, and the creek banks west of 400 East.
Rotary Park Site
A portion of the project area behind Rotary Park has been closed off with chain-link fencing to
protect the public during construction. This will temporarily impact access to some sections of
the park.
Rotary Park is closed for reservations throughout the construction, but unimpacted areas of the
park remain open for day use.
Work will include:
 Excavating unstable bank areas
 Installing geotextile fabric, riprap, and gabion structures
 Rebuilding and reshaping the creek bank and floodplain in accordance with plans
 Restoring natural creek flow once stabilization is complete
 Final grading, seeding, and environmental restoration

West of 400 East Site
Work will include:
 Excavating in the creek bed and installing a concrete grade control structure
 Restoring natural creek flow once stabilization is complete
 Final grading, seeding, and environmental restoration
The public is asked to avoid these construction areas while the Mill Creek stabilization work is
being done.
