Chairman of the Board

Sam found home in Moab after a period of town-shopping around the Colorado Plateau. He was drawn by the siren calls of river, high-alpine, and desert in a tidy geographic area. The songs and stories from KZMU cemented his love for this place and he is thrilled to be helping shape the future of the station in his role as a board member. He works as an organizer, campaigner, and public lands devotee with the Rural Utah Project.

Ash Hanson (she/her) is a rural arts advocate and a social practice theater artist/musician with 20 years of experience working with rural communities to activate stories, connect neighbors, and exercise collective imagination. She is the Creative Executive Officer (CEO) of Department of Public Transformation, a nonprofit arts organization working at the intersection of creativity and civic life in rural communities. In addition to her work with DoPT, she is the founder of PlaceBase Productions, a theater company that creates original, site-specific musicals celebrating small-town life. She has also served as a member of the Center for Performance and Civic Practice Leadership Circle, Program Director for Public Art Saint Paul and the Minnesota Theater Alliance. She holds an MA in Applied Theater with a focus on Rural Community Development, and she was named an Obama Foundation Fellow and a Bush Fellow for her work with rural communities. She believes deeply in the power of play and exclamation points!

Jordan Lister

Jordan Lister

Jordan grew up on Colorado’s Western Slope and moved to Moab in the fall of 2016. He works as a paramedic for Grand County EMS and in his free time enjoys hiking, climbing, biking, working on art projects, and, of course, listening to KZMU. Jordan joined the board in 2024 and is excited to help steer KZMU into its future.

Andrew Austin

Andrew first moved to Moab in the year 2000 after fleeing North Central Texas. A lifelong lover of music, Andrew first came to KZMU as a volunteer DJ in 2001 where he was warmly welcomed by a like-minded community of artists, misfits, and all-around fun-loving folks. Andrew is the proprietor of Austin Solar in Moab, a company that specializes in installing solar photovoltaic systems for homes and businesses.

Toni Sicola

Toni grew up in Houston, TX and spent her post-college years bouncing from coast to coast. She and her husband found themselves on vacation in Moab just before the start of the pandemic, and they both fell in love with the natural beauty of the place. They landed in Moab permanently by the end of 2020 and gradually transformed from rock climbers into mountain bikers. Toni brought her wedding business with her, now called Tangled Sage, and has been a key voice in the conversation about how the wedding industry can help grow and support Moab’s local economy.  As a business owner and musician (her band is Toni and the Enablers), she’s forged amazing connections with other local creatives and business owners, and in 2024, launched the Moab Women’s Festival with her business partner, Teresa Herd. She’s been listening and supporting KZMU since arriving five years ago, and is overjoyed to join the board.

Jen Thomas

Jen Thomas

Jen Thomas grew up in southwestern Utah and spent years living in New York’s Hudson Valley before returning to the desert she calls home. She’s been in Moab for two and a half years and has thrown herself into the local arts and music community. She’s a photographer, artist, and musician, and when she’s not shooting or playing music you’ll probably find her out riding bikes or exploring the desert with her dog Loki.
