Outdoor Education Orgs, Peace Corps Tales on This Week in Moab

By June 14, 2020 June 16th, 2020 No Comments

It’s officially summertime, and for many local kids that typically means summer camp. Canyonlands Field Institute and the Youth Garden Project join the latest This Week in Moab to talk about their camps and outdoor education programming. Both organizations have made major adjustments to continue serving local youth during the pandemic. YGP’s Youth Programs Director, Julie Zender, and CFI’s Land Program Manager, Brennan Gillis, discuss new safety precautions for their summer camps, the resources it takes to keep programming afloat, and all the fun ahead for local campers.

And later, Moab local Nathaniel Smith recently – and abruptly – returned from a Peace Corps placement in Guatemala. He was one of thousands across the world forced to leave their posts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  We hear more about his journey and the abrupt goodbye, which he is currently chronicling in a four part series in The Times-Independent.
