Mutt of the Week: Q-Tip

On the Navajo Nation, many Dine have sheep and use dogs to help herd, protect and help with the sheep. Shepherds across the globe will tell you that while training is required to teach the dogs how to behave around the sheep, it is also a natural instinct. Some dogs are interested in herding and will be good at it, and other dogs are not. A Navajo Rancher had a litter of puppies and waited until they were old enough to test them with the sheep and unfortunately, Q-Tip was not. So, Q-Tip and some other non-sheepdogs headed our way to find a different purpose to life.

The family of six ex-sheepdogs arrived at Underdog quite shy. The sheepdogs on the Navajo Nation are meant to bond with the sheep and frequently have little human contact to encourage the bond. Slowly, these pups started to warm up to humans and Q-tip was the first one! She started wiggling her way to whoever was visiting her at the time to get treats and scratches. Her big goofy, Dumbo-like ears would pop up and down as she came to say hello and burry her body into their chest.
While Q-Tip is not your next sheepdog, they might be the perfect addition to your family. They are calm and goofy and currently have low energy; although that might change once they are settled into their new home. Q-Tip is about seven months old and is fully vaccinated and spayed. Q-Tip likely has some working breeds in her bloodline including Border Collie. She is a good girl and ready to find a home!
