Mutt of the Week 12/16/2020: Mama Squeak!

Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab’s Mutt of the Week is Mama Squeak. Mama Squeak came from a family on the reservation who was notorious for accepting strays on their property and giving them lots of love and whatever food they could spare. When we met the family they had over 25 dogs. Dogs need about 2 cups of food per day which meant that the family needed a new 50 pound bag of dog food each week. Even though they loved their dogs, they couldn’t afford to feed them and ensure that each dog was healthy through regular and emergency vet care. There are only two vets on the Navajo Nation, which covers over 27,000 square miles (about the size of West Virginia), and it can take hours to reach a grocery store that has dog food available.  A majority of the dogs weren’t spayed as well and so it was inevitable that 25 dogs would soon become more as the female dogs had puppies. Mama Squeak and her 3 babies, along with several other dogs, were relinquished to us because the family wanted “to give them the help they really need.”  Squeak and her pups had mange and needed some time at the vet before their hair grew back. It took about a month of treatment before they were ready for adoption.

Now, Mama Squeak has a beautiful full coat and an incredibly loving personality. She is all kisses and wants to be as close to you as possible. She will need some training and obedience classes to learn manners, but we have no doubt that she will become an awesome dog. Mama Squeak will need to be in a home to herself as she is very reactive towards other dogs. We would love to find a forever home for Mama Squeak for the holidays- do you think you could help? Visit Underdog’s website underdogrescuemoab.org to put in an application to adopt. Our staff will contact you shortly after to invite you out to our ranch to meet her!
