(Left) Saskatchewan duo Kacy & Clayton have returned with the album Carrying On, produced by Jeff Tweedy, a huge fan, at Wilco’s Chicago studio. True roots influences range from Bobbie Gentry to Hoyt Axton, and the result is enchanting. Check out their video for “High Holiday” below. (Right) Brittany Howard, powerhouse frontwoman of Alabama Shakes, has just released her debut solo album Jaime. All at once bold, sultry, sweet, evoking sounds from Billie Holiday to Prince, this album is incredibly, start to finish, a soul-shaking masterpiece.
 **HIGHLIGHTS**

**Best knockout debut from a seasoned bandleader: Brittany Howard: Jaime
**Best thing to come out of Saskatchewan since Colter Wall hit the cowboy poet circuit: Kacy & Clayton: Carrying On
**Most ear-pleasing outcome of divine chops and a looper: The Nunnery: We Are the Stars
**Best windswept, peat-covered landscape painted to music: Red River Dialect: Abundance Welcoming Ghosts
