Roads and visitor centers at Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are now open during the partial government shutdown, thanks to state plows and a funding influx from a local parks partner. Throughout the country, the combination of park access and skeletal staff is raising concerns about adequate protection of natural resources. Today on KZMU News, we visit Arches, speak with people close to the National Park System, and learn about a new “fed food” hotline to connect out of work federal employees with food resources.

Excerpts from Lauren Ray’s “Shutdown Blues” and Collin Warren’s “Talkin’ Government Shutdown Blues” aired on today’s newscast.
