DJ Spotlight Dec. 13, 2019: Meagan Megawatts

DJ NAME: Meagan Megawatts
SHOW NAME: Moab Mama’s Monday Morning Show AND Jah Sunday Morning Reggae Show (each 1x a month)
TUNE IN: Mondays 9a-12p & Sundays 9a-12p
TIME ON THE AIR AT KZMU: Since the Spring of 2014

BRIEF BIO: I moved to Moab in the Fall of 2013 after having moved to Utah the previous Spring to work on a farm by Capital
Reef National Park. Since living here, I have opened my own small business called M.C.’s Healing Arts, where I offer massage
therapy. I also teach yoga and offer classes through the Moab Yoga Studio and teach to the kiddos at Sego Lily pre-school.
In my spare time I enjoy gardening, hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, arts and crafts, dabbling with the ukulele and the
harmonica and spending time with friends. I am a huge live music lover and am always trying to go see shows when I can.
Getting to share my love of music with the community and beyond through KZMU has been a serious dream come true!

WHAT CAN LISTENERS EXPECT FROM YOUR SHOW?: When I DJ the Moab mamas show you can expect me to jump around
from different genres. I have an old soul when it comes to my taste in music, so I tend to play a lot of soul/funk/classic rock/
psychedelic rock/blues from the 60’s and 70’s. I love looking to see what new albums are at the station and try and
showcase at least a couple during my show. I like to get people moving on their Monday morning!
For Jah Sunday, I tend to focus on roots reggae music and try and showcase different female reggae artists and newer
artists on the scene who are keeping that style alive and thriving. I have such a great time preparing for both of my shows
and can dive in really deep, which allows me to continuously find new artists songs and connections, which is so
rewarding and fun.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SHOW TO YOUR GRANDMA?: Moab Mama’s: an eclectic blend of music that you can
bake cookies to. Jah Sunday: it features the genre of music known as Reggae that originated in Jamaica. Think of the
country music you like-only with a more laid-back style and a distinctive beat that you can definitely bake cookies to!

WHO IS YOUR #1 FAN?: My Dad, Monte, is and has always been such a huge supporter of whatever I choose to do. He really
gets a kick out of me being on the radio and tunes in when he can. He always makes sure to call in during radio-thons to
donate and wants to wear whatever KZMU schwag I can send him.

DESERT ISLAND ALBUM: Led Zeppelin’s Led Zeppelin 2 album I would have no problems listening to that over and over
and over again!

GUILTY PLEASURE ALBUM: TLC’s crazysexycool from 1994. It takes me back to 5th grade so fast and the feelings I had at that
age listening to that album. It was my JAM!

FILL IN THE BLANK: Community Radio makes: a happy and informed community!

BEST ON-AIR MOMENT: When a parent of a young girl called in and told me it was her daughter’s 8th birthday and they
had been listening to my show all morning and the girl wanted to make a request and listen to James Brown’s “Get Up
Offa That Thing” for her birthday. It made me so happy!

IF YOU WERE A PIECE OF OUTDATED AUDIO EQUIPMENT WHAT WOULD YOU BE AND WHY?: A cassette tape. I think
about it in terms of how I put forward my best self: When I am properly prepared and balanced I emit the sound
that resonates with my true self, but if that is not the case, then I can come unwound really easily.
