The Mutt of the Week: Marty Robins

Marty Robins is a five to six year old pit bull mix. Hes a sweet boy who loves all people (especially the ones with treats). The majority of our dogs are found roaming the reservation desert landscape and it’s only because of our network of partners on the rez and the occasional visitor passing through that these dogs get a second chance. 

Marty Robins is a good boy who is dog selective, walks wonderfully on a leash. As with most pit mixes he seems to have some allergies that effect his beautiful coat.

Mutt of the Week: Zeus

Zeus is a sweet cuddly boy who loves attention and treats. He’d do well in an active household. He is dog friendly and adorable with his dual colored eyes.  The majority of our dogs are found roaming the reservation desert landscape and it’s only because of our network of partners on the rez and the occasional visitor passing through that these dogs get a second chance. 

Zeus wouldn’t do well in a house with small children. He’s scared of them and lunges at them to protect himself. He will need quite a bit of training to refine his manners. He will also need to be leash and potty trained.

Mutt of the week: Bodhi

Bodhi has won over all of the staff here at Underdog! Bodhi went into Foster early February after coming to Underdog with a broken rear leg. He was very nervous and wouldn’t let his foster or staff touch him. The majority of our dogs are found roaming the reservation desert landscape and it’s only because of our network of partners on the rez and the occasional visitor passing through that these dogs get a second chance. 

Since he has arrived back on our ranch he has come a long way! He now lets staff pet him and comes right up to the gate for love and attention. He is fully vaccinated and neutered.  Bodhi quickly showed love for toys and other dogs. He plays well with other dogs, however he will need time to warm up to his forever human. Bohdi still needs leash training, he comes for food and takes treats out of your hand. He needs a home with a fenced yard, other dogs to teach him trust, and people that are willing to put in the time and be rewarded with love.

Mutt of the Week: Duck

Underdog’s The Mutt of the Week we have for you now is Duck! Our little Duck is a very special girl. When we went to spay her, we discovered she had a grade six , of six, heart murmur. With everyone’s generosity, she was afforded the surgery to replace a valve in her heart, and she was worth every penny! This 8 month old little lady is super friendly, good with both cats and dogs, and now she is ready to find her furever home! Transitioning from the reservation to the Rescue Ranch to a forever home can be difficult and stressful for rescue dogs. Foster homes are important in making the transition easier and smoother. Underdog needs fosters who can commit to a minimum of two weeks and are located in Moab or Grand Junction.  Fosters help us introduce rescue dogs to walking on a leash, good house behaviors, potty training and socialization and so much more. Fosters give Underdog insight into the dog’s behavior and help us learn more about the right fit for their forever home. This summer, consider fostering an Underdog! Mutt of the Week: Long John

Long John is technically an adult at 1 year old, but he’s really just a big puppy! He’s a love-able fluff-ball whose color changes depending on if he’s been rolling around in the dirt (which he usually is). He is such a happy dog and always looks like he has a smile on his face. If you are looking for a playful and loyal companion, Long John is really the perfect dog for you. For the next week, Underdog will be participating in the Clear the Shelters campaign. Mutt of the Week: Diesel

Diesel was surrendered by a family in Monument Valley that no longer had the means to care for him. They loved him and knew Underdog would find him a great new home! Diesel is about 2 years old and has a leg up from most rez dogs since he has already been in a home before! He loves playing with other dogs and has the cutest little stump of a tail. His family named him Diesel because they thought he was built like Vin Diesel! Meet Kit Kat! She is as sweet as a candy bar! Kit Kat was found hanging around a visitors center with her 5 puppies. They were all brought in and were super friendly. She’s a great momma but is now ready to be in a home of her own.

Kit Kat weighs about 40 pounds and is around 3 years old. She loves affection and has good manners. She is good with other dogs and with kids. She is a bit shy and will need someone who can be patient with her and expose her to new experiences so she can learn that the world is safe!

Mutt of the Week: Gary

Meet Gary! Gary was surrendered to us from a shelter in Flagstaff several months ago. Gary has beautiful
brown/ black and golden colors to his fur. He is a handsome man around 10 years old and 70 pounds.

At the ranch, Gary keeps to himself. He is friendly but likes his space and enjoys resting and lounging outside.
Once he is comfortable with you, he enjoys being pet occasionally. Though he is a pretty independent and
relaxed creature. He is fully potty trained and has lived well in previous houses.

The ideal situation for Gary would be where he can lounge around in a comfy home or outside in the sunshine,
undisturbed. He is an old man with low activity needs. We would love for him to have a safe place to live out
the rest of his life. We want Gary to be placed in a safe and calm home so badly that we are waiving his
adoption fee.

Mutt of the Week: Brillo

Meet Brillo! Brillo was a stray found in Monument Valley. He was brought to Underdog by Bluff Animal Rescue. He must’ve been shaved shortly before being picked up, as his hair seems to still be growing back in – in spots, hence the name Brillo.    

At the Underdog Ranch, Brillo has been a super easy dog. He is very friendly with humans and is always giving us loads of affection when we go into his run. He gets along well with other dogs and is an overall sweet and loving boy. 

Brillo would make a great addition to a family or anyone wanting a loving companion. He is about 1.5 years old and is super eager to find his forever home. 

Please remember we are still having a special on adult dogs – just 50$ – so it’s a great time to rescue from Underdog. And one last shout out, we are currently hiring for an Animal Care Coordinator who will specialize in volunteer coordination and overall ranch care. Mutt of the Week: Topher

Meet Topher!
 
In April, Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab received our resident big friendly giant: Topher. Topher is a good sheep dog whose family moved away from the Navajo Nation and left their dogs behind. Neighbors cared for Topher and she protected their sheep until Underdog could come help.

When Topher arrived, staff was in awe of her grace and simple nature. Despite her large size, she is so gentle and quiet. After a couple of days though, we figured out that Topher isn’t just a mellow dog: she is deaf. We tested her hearing and found out that she was unable to hear in both ears.

Topher is ready to go to a home where she can live out the rest of her doggy days. She is spayed and fully vaccinated. Topher loves other dogs but is protective of her home and has a loud bark. Topher is a Great Pyrenees mix and is 70 pounds. She is doing better on the leash, but still needs practice. Do you think Topher could be  a good fit for you?
