KZMU’s freshest public affairs show is Great Wide Open, helmed by incomparable outdoorsperson Lisa Hathaway. On the second Monday of every month, she’ll host wide, varied, and in-depth conversations about outdoor recreation in the region.
The inaugural show kicks off with Eric Trenbeath, whose lifelong passion for backcountry skiing informs his current position as local avalanche forecaster for the Manti-La Sal National Forest. He and Hathaway discuss how backcountry recreation and avalanche forecasting developed in Moab and where things are now. This is a compelling conversation ranging from the tragic 1992 avalanche, how group dynamics might play a role in winter accidents, as well as current resources to help you stay safe. So grab a hot chocolate, turn up your radio dial, and listen in before grabbing your ski poles!
