Art of the Tattoo on Art Talks

Tattoos have a rich history in human culture, dating back thousands of years. As Art Talks host Richard Codd outlines, in the contemporary United States, tattoos were once the purview of sailors and circus performers. But now, that’s changed. In his research for this show, Codd found over 20,000 tattoo parlors in the United States alone, generating nearly $2 billion for the economy. Codd visits with tattoo artist Arlo DiCristina of Elysium Studios in Grand Junction, Colorado. The pair talk about evolving artistic trends in the tattoo community, application, business and more. And later, Moab residents Chrissy Kinslow and Corey Shurtleff talk about the inspiration and meaning in their own tattoos. (Photo: Tattoo artist Maud Wagner)
