Applications still being accepted for City’s Residential Utility Assistance Program

Funding is still available for the City of Moab’s Residential Utility Assistance Pilot Program,
and the city encourages lower-income city residents to apply.
In July, the Moab City Council approved changes to income requirements, which will help
more city households qualify for assistance. The changes increase the income levels that
qualify, expanding the number of households and residents on fixed incomes who meet
eligibility requirements.
Applications are available in person at the City of Moab Treasurer’s Office, through the city’s
website at moabcity.gov/Treasurer, by email at treasurer@moabcity.gov, or by calling the
treasurer’s office at 435-259-5123.
The program aims to help reduce the cost of city water, sewer, and stormwater utilities for
qualifying low-income homeowners and renters who live within Moab city limits. Qualifying
city residents who receive these services from the Grand Water and Sewer Service Agency may
also apply.
The assistance program is administered through the Moab City Treasurer’s Office, which
processes program applications throughout the year.
Homeowners and renters are eligible if their household income is within 80 percent of the area
median income, or if they participate in programs such as SNAP, TANF, WIC, Medicaid, SSI,
or Free/Reduced Lunch.
Renters must provide proof that they reside within city limits through a valid lease agreement,
and documentation showing they pay the utility costs for their rentals, even though the utility
account remains in the property owner’s name.

All qualifying applicants may receive an account utility credit of $40 per month, or the total of
their monthly city utility bill, whichever is less.
The Moab City Treasurer’s Office reviews all applications, verifies eligibility, and confirms
utility account ownership. Applicants who are determined to be ineligible have the right to
appeal if they believe the decision is in error.
Applicants who are approved must sign an agreement with the City of Moab.
Applications are available online at moabcity.gov/Treasurer, by emailing
treasurer@moabcity.gov, or in person at the Treasurer’s Office, 217 E. Center St.
For questions or additional information about program eligibility please call the Treasurer’s
