Former longtime KZMU manager Jeff Flanders passes

By June 19, 2017Announcement!

KZMU mourns the passing of Jeff Flanders, who managed the station for 16 of its 25 years and lived next door. Among his accomplishments, Jeff created and produced “Word of the Day,” KZMU’s collaboration with Moab 5th and 6th graders; and oversaw KZMU’s conversion from wind to solar power. We’re grateful that Jeff and his wife Colleen attended KZMU’s Birthday Party bash at the MARC in April, where Jeff greeted KZMU friends and fans and we celebrated his long history with the station. Jeff passed away Friday, June 16 at Moab Regional Hospital.

Jefe’ (Spanish for “Boss”) is the name I’ve always preferred for Jeff Flanders. The 7 years I spent as his assistant at KZMU were a delightful experience, thanks to his tutelage and participation. It was a fluid, tag-team approach, where every task he asked of others, he would happily do himself. His multi-faceted style of management, friendship, and philanthropy, catered to the individual person or circumstances. Jeff Flanders was a rare gem of a Human Being, who will be remembered long past his (too-short) life. I raise a toast — “Honor to you, Jefe’. May the transition of your soul, to the next chapter of the adventure, be smooth and supported, just as you have supported others.”

Fare Thee Well, beloved Station Manatee; may you glide intrepidly through the vast audio radiance. I am most Grateful for our many spirited collaborations on This Week in Moab and Kokopelli Coffeehouse, and always at radiothon, and for knowing the guy next door for the most part really was next door. Condolences and love to Coleen. In Lak’ech, and golf in Beauty ~ Bob Lippman

I’ll miss you man. This station saved my rear and reared me right. I’m playing some blues for you right now. You made an impact bigger than you’ll ever know.
